Institutional Policies

Effective Date: Fall 2026  ·  Applies To: All Enrolled Students

Non-Discrimination Policy

Montessori Makers Residency does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, military status, religion, or any other legally protected status in any of its programs, activities, or employment practices.

Legal compliance

MMR operates in compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, and applicable Illinois civil rights laws.

Reporting discrimination or harassment

Any person who believes they have experienced or witnessed discrimination or harassment should report it to:

  • Director of Training — info@montessorimakers.org
  • Any member of the Advisory Council
  • An external legal advisor of the complainant's choosing

See the Student Complaints section below for the full intake and resolution process. Retaliation against anyone who raises a good-faith concern is strictly prohibited.

Accommodation Policy

MMR is committed to providing accommodations that enable all candidates with disabilities and neurodivergent candidates to participate fully in the program. Accommodations are standard practice, not exception.

How to request

Enrolled residents may submit a request from the Accommodations page in their portal. Requests are ideally submitted within the first two weeks of enrollment but may be submitted at any time. Supporting documentation should be from a qualified professional and typically within the past three years.

Types of accommodations available

  • Test-taking: extended time, separate room
  • Formatting: large print, audio, transcripts
  • Course participation: modified due dates, asynchronous participation
  • Practicum scheduling: flexibility in placement and schedule
  • Technology: assistive technology supports
  • Mobility: physical accessibility supports at intensives and observations

Confidentiality

Accommodation documentation is held in confidence by the Director of Training and is kept separate from the candidate's academic file. Cohort Guides and instructors are informed only of approved accommodations they need to honor — not of the underlying diagnosis or documentation.
