The Prepared Leader

The flagship program for heads of school who are ready to build a Prepared Organization into the school they actually run.

A full academic year. The founding Charter Cohort begins January 2027. Applications open this fall.

The Gap

You already know how to do this work.

You have watched a three-year-old choose the pink tower, carry it across the room, and build it in silence. You know that moment did not happen by accident. Someone prepared the environment so carefully that concentration became the path of least resistance.

Now walk from that classroom into the staff lounge, the board meeting, the head’s office. Where did the preparation go? Roles blur until no one can say who decides what. The strategic plan lives in a drawer while the real strategy lives in the head of one exhausted leader. And the people who carry the mission most deeply burn out first, because they absorb the load the structure refuses to carry.

Five heads of school in seven years is not a hiring problem. A guide team quietly losing its best people is not a commitment problem. These are design problems wearing people’s faces. Our own pedagogy has held the remedy for a century. The Prepared Leader is where you finally turn it on the adults.

What it is

A full academic year of building, not two years of theory.

Over the program, you do not study leadership in the abstract. You build the five load-bearing components of a Prepared Organization into your own school, coached, and you leave with an institution that measurably holds together better than the one you walked in with.

The practicum runs on your own school. You bring your real org chart, your real staffing gaps, your real enrollment and retention picture, and you build on those. You hold your data the whole way. MMAP and MatchHub are there as optional accelerants, dashboards if you want them and a live hiring pipeline if you need one, never as a requirement. The proof is not a certificate. It is a school where roles no longer blur, where the plan has left the drawer, and where your strongest people are no longer the first to leave.

The Curriculum

The five components of a Prepared Organization.

Each component is a module. Each module ends in something installed and working in your school, not a paper. An opening orientation delivers a visible win inside the first ninety days. A two-day capstone brings the whole prepared organization together in June, virtual for the Charter Cohort and in person in Chicago from Fall 2027.

  • 01

    Clarity of Purpose and Role

Build a role and decision-rights map so authority stops floating and everyone can say who decides what.

Built into your school · MMAP optional

  • 02

    Freedom Within Structure

Build the structures and policies that let your staff exercise real autonomy without drift into chaos.

    Installed with the Toolbox library

  • 03

    The Prepared Adult

Build hiring, onboarding, and adult-development systems, and open a live pipeline and a retention protocol.

A hiring system · MatchHub optional

  • 04

    Coherence

Align strategy to daily operations so the plan lives in the building, not in one exhausted head.

Tracked in your own systems · MMAP optional

  • 05

    Justice as Infrastructure

Build equity into structure itself, into hiring, compensation, and decision-making, rather than declaring it in a statement. Presented and pressure-tested with your peers at the capstone.

The Shape of the Year

An academic year, September to a June capstone.

Twice-monthly two-hour group sessions across the year, small-group labs between, and six one-on-one coaching sessions. As much contact as a two-year program, delivered in one year, structured around your calendar rather than piled on top of it. The founding Charter Cohort runs this same build condensed from January to June 2027.

  1. September

Orientation and the inner work. Your first win inside ninety days.

  2. Oct to Dec

Clarity, Freedom Within Structure, and the Prepared Adult, built into your school.

  3. Jan to May

Coherence and Justice as Infrastructure, woven through the whole organization.

  4. June

Two-day capstone, in person in Chicago for the full year and virtual for the founding cohort. Then alumni continuation through the summer.

Enroll

Two ways in. One standard of work.

  • MMAP and MatchHub access, optional, if you want them
  • Two-day virtual capstone in June
  • A founding rate, because you are first and you help shape the program

  • Six coaching sessions; MMAP and MatchHub access, optional

Schools with demonstrated financial need or a justice-centered mission may request an adjusted rate. A number of need-based seats each cohort are underwritten from the ecosystem itself. Justice is infrastructure here too, including in how the program is paid for.

Every cohort is ten to fifteen leaders. Enrollment is application-based and personally reviewed. When a room is full, the next names open the following cohort.

The Path In

You may already be on it.

The way into this program is the way you found this page.

  1. Read the paper

The Prepared Organization white paper names the patterns you have felt. Recognition is the first piece of data.

Read The Prepared Organization white paper
  2. Take the diagnostic

Five minutes, free, a full read of your school. It shows you exactly which components need building.

    Take the Prepared Organization diagnostic
  3. Build it, coached

The Prepared Leader is where that read becomes a school year of real work, in your building, on your data.

Build the organization your children already deserve.

The founding Charter Cohort begins January 2027. Ten seats. Applications reviewed as they arrive.
